Michael & Larissa

A couple from London was visiting Penang for a holiday a few years back. While they were here, they toured Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and said to themselves, "If we were to get married, it has to be here".

On 7th of May 2007, Michael & Larissa came back to Penang and held a memorable wedding. Alishia and I were aesthetic and honoured to witness such a wonderful event, held at a magnificent place. Here are some of our favourite shots.

The "Escoy" was the room they were staying at. They had the entire mansion to themselves for 3 full days.

Thomas & Eelin's Pre-Wedding Photos

We spent 5 hours at 5 different locations in Penang for Thomas & Eelin's pre-wedding photo shoot. Thomas & Eelin will be having their wedding ceremony this Saturday at Vistana Hotel and I look forward to capture their moments, candidly. Here are some of my favourite shots:

Whye Eow & Poi See

After a long break, we're finally back in action, doing what we love - photographing weddings. A big thank you goes out to Iq Lin who introduced us to Whye Eow & Poi See. We truly enjoyed their wedding; their guests were fun and outgoing, their families were friendly and we're glad to see so many familiar faces at their wedding too. Whye Eow & Poi See began their day with the usual morning preparation. Here are some of our favourite shots.

I am usually not a fan of 'spot colours', but I couldn't help but to do it for this shot. It just works perfectly.

Whye Eow & Poi See ended their celebration with a grand banquet at Traders Hotel. We would like to thank Whye Eow & Poi See for engaging us as their wedding photographer and congratulate them for a wonderful wedding.

Ivan & Irene

We were hired to photograph Ivan & Irene's wedding dinner at Sandy Bay Hotel and their reunion dinner for their close friends and relatives at Tanjung Bungah Club, a day before their wedding dinner. Ivan & Irene who are currently residing in the States, hosted a simple wedding ceremony here in Malaysia.

John Lim's Family Portrait

Family portrait are often regarded with less importance and it is probably done once, maybe twice in a lifetime. Most traditional family portraits are usually carried out inside a studio and it is often dull and boring.

John & Yean wanted a family portrait before one of their sons leaves for his studies overseas. Instead of a studio, John’s family had their family portrait done at their comfort in their own home, and at their sports club in Penang.

Here are some of my favourite shots of this fun and loving family.

Tom & Susan

Tom & Susan's first wedding ceremony was held in Malaysia. Kee Sitt & I was privileged enough to capture their special day. I must say that this wedding had a perfect crowd - they were fun and oblivious towards the camera.

Susan began her day as early as 6.30 in the morning and had her make up done at Gurney Hotel.

Susan had the most complete set of shoes for her special occasion

Tom was seen rather nervous when we met him in his room. I would too if I knew the "horror" they were about to go through later. ;)

And the horror begins! The girls lined up quite a number of interesting tasks for the guys.

No. 1: The bra hug!

No. 2: The ultimate military push up technique

No. 3: Having breakfast, blind folded

No. 4: Gherkin topped with spicy wasabe paste for an extra zing

No. 5: A task that most girls can easily accomplish even when blind folded, but not the guys

No. 6: The 10 commandments that comes with the package, memorised by hard. Even Tom was nervous when he was facing "Moses"

I will conveniently forget rule no. 2

No. 7: Handing over all Ang Paos inside your pocket and the currency they were referring to was Pounds

Tom had to go through further obstacles before receiving his bride. He had to sing for the bride, confess his love to a total stranger and finally, lift the chair (with someone sitting on it) that was blocking the door to his bride (with some help from his good friends of course) - and it was all worth while.

Their dinner began at 630pm in E&O Penang.

Susan was having her evening make up done as her parents rehearsed their dance for the dinner

And the evening ended perfectly with a kiss. Tom & Susan will be leaving for UK end of this month and I wish them a safe journey home. Congratulations to Tom & Susan.

"Casual Sunday" Family Portrait

We recently conducted a photo shoot for a fun and outgoing family a couple of weeks back in Penang. The theme for their session was "Casual Sunday" - nothing fancy, just plain and simple. What we first did was to let them have fun by doing whatever they want as we snap away candidly. Occasionally, we would ask them to strike a few pose for us; individually and in groups. A typical family photo shoot session usually lasts 3 - 4 hours.

Alan & Doreen

On my previous post, I mentioned that I personally shot two weddings in one Saturday. One was Rev. Marcus' wedding and the other was Alan & Doreen's. I've never experienced handling 2 different weddings on a same day, and thank God that I've managed to pull through without any problems - thanks to Alishia for helping me out. She's quite an excellent photographer herself.

Doreen began her day with her make up at Aspial.

She definitely has the "million dollar smile". Isn't she a natural?

Alan was lucky enough to get away easily. The teaser he and his men went through was rather easy compared to what I've seen.

Others watched as Alan continues to persuade his wife's bridesmaids to let him in

After long persuasion, the door finally opened

Alan & Doreen proceeded immediately to the temple for prayers

I kind of like this photo. It gives me a nostalgic feeling

I managed to rush back from the other wedding on time to photograph them as they walked the aisle

The photo above was taken by Alishia. Isn't it beautiful?

The party only started when all of their guests left the hall

Alan, Doreen and their friends continued to party and celebrate their union while I packed up and left straight for home.

Wedding of The Month

Well, at least it was for Penang. Last Saturday was the longest and most tiring session I’ve ever encountered - I had to cover 2 weddings in one Saturday! Alan & Doreen signed up with us a couple of months back and it was supposed to be a normal assignment for us. That was until last week, when Arden from ePixels invited me to help cover a wedding that was supposed to be the “biggest” wedding in Penang.

Fueled with a slice of bread for breakfast and one bun for lunch, I undertook 16 hours of non-stop photography session. In the morning, I was hired to photograph Alan & Doreen’s bridal make up and tea ceremony and just before lunch, I had to rush straight to Equatorial Penang for that ‘big’ event while Alishia covered the rest or the tea ceremony and solemnization.

The “First Assembly of God Church” organized the wedding for Rev. Marcus & Chin San Nee, where 1500 over guests were present. Yes you heard me. ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED OVER GUESTS!

Rev. Marcus walks with his best men and bridesmaids.

Cars jam-packed the entire street and I heard that all 3 parking bays were full!

151 tables in the hall

Worshiping in high spirit

And the celebration continues…

It was definitely an honour to be invited to shoot alongside with Arden. He is one of the pioneer wedding & event photographers in Penang, who mostly shoots for the big shots around the island. I left Equatorial at 6.30pm and rushed back to Alan & Doreen’s wedding in Gurney Hotel and continued photographing until 1130pm. I shall post Alan & Doreen’s lovely photos sometime next week.

I went back home with a pair of exhausted legs and a painful back, but with a high spirit. It was without doubt, one of the most exciting days for me. I am also looking forward to 1st February where I will be shooting alongside with renowned videographer, Kee.

Kar Jin & Poh Sim

The number of enquiries have been pouring in all over from Penang, KL and Singapore ever since I announced that I will continue to offer my old rate for a certain period. If you like my style and service, I strongly suggest that you book us early before our offer expires. There has been a couple of enquiries that fall on the same date - and I work on a first come first serve basis.

I've been busy replying emails for the past few days - which leaves me little time to blog. Without delaying any further, I would like to highlight an ROM I shot early this month. Kee complaint that my gallery slideshow takes ages to load, so, I will be posting photos instead.

Kar Jin & Poh Sim sealed their love and took their vows on 1st January 2007.. a celebration of a brand new year with a new life together. Their ROM was held at Che Hoon Kor Moral Uplifting Society in Penang.

Paul & Streisand

December was a very busy month for us. After each wedding, I spent hours and hours processing every single photos, looking into almost every detail.

Paul & Streisand held their wedding on the 9th of December (a popular date I heard). Paul's father is also an avid photographer. I was definately under pressure to meet up to another photographer's standard and expectation ;)

It was truly a blessed union of two lovely individuals who are currently residing in Kuala Lumpur. Here are some of the shots on their wedding day.
