They say that the most important memories you’ll get happen during your wedding day. Well, the most important memories I get happened the moment I proposed to Alishia. The planning involved before the wedding was one heck of an experience. Every single details were looked into – the venue, wedding invitations, photographer, wedding cake, gown, suit, and the list goes on.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve witnessed so many beautiful weddings first hand and I thought that I have gotten everything covered. Boy was I wrong! I became from a professional to an amatuer when it comes to organizing and planning our own wedding. I guess that’s why we need other professionals to help us – it’s like a sick surgeon who needs another surgeon to treat him.
I’ve also come to appreciate details a lot more after our wedding. The tiny little details involved in everything we do such as the gown material & design, the icing on the cake, the shoes, the invitations and stationery, theme, decorations and so on has some meaning and value to us. I guess it makes much sense for a photographer to photograph these details after all.
We’ve always wanted a garden wedding ceremony and a reception by the pool, and figured that Saujana Kuala Lumpur was our perfect venue. We crossed our fingers, took our chances and prayed for good weather ever since we signed on the dotted line to secure that place. A month before our wedding, it started to rain every evening without fail. We started to panic but we continued to keep our trust and faith in God, knowing that he will bless us with a wonderful garden ceremony. It was 3 days before our wedding when I reached Kuala Lumpur to get a few stuff organized. To my amazement, the rain stopped completely and I was excited. However, my enthusiasm fell short when it started to drizzle again the very night before our big day. Nevertheless, we continued to pray for a beautiful weather.
April 19th, 2009 was the day for us. We started our portraits with Patrick Low and his amazing team in the morning. We didn’t want to go to the bridal house because we wanted our photos to reflect more of us instead of just another couple with some fancy outfits, which we will never ever use. The weather was cloudy and beautiful throughout the morning until the thunder came in the afternoon. The hotel staff immediately informed me that our dream of having a garden wedding was not possible. We continued to convince the staff that it will not rain and started to pray fervently, hoping for a miracle to happen.
5pm, and the thunder somehow subsided. It was just an hour away to our ceremony and things were looking good. In short, there wasn’t a single drop of rain, everything went perfectly well and we had our dream wedding. God even threw in a beautiful cloudy sky to compliment it. It’s amazing how God reminds us that he is control of everything and that if we continue to have trust in Him, He will show us a miracle.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who were involved in our wedding. Our dream wedding would not have happened without you guys, so thank you again. Now, I finally fully understand what it feels like being a bride & groom.
Here are some amazing photos taken during our wedding by Patrick Low and his team.
