4 Years Old

July 2, 2010

We’ve officially turned 4 this month! A quick glance down memory lane has showed us how much God has blessed us for the past 4 amazing years; not only in business & photography, but in our personal life too. This year has taught me that life does not revolve entirely on business and photography. Sure, photography is my passion and my rice bowl, but there are so many other things to do in this world other than to work and shoot. I’ve started cycling and participated in various MTB jamborees, picked up music, golf & badminton again, started traveling for leisure and I hope to focus on building a family next year – fingers crossed! To all of our friends, vendors, clients and family; THANK YOU for seeing us through our 4th year. :)

Ok, just a little reminder to soon-to-wed brides and grooms out there. Our 4th Anniversary Promotion is due end of this month (31st July). In case you didn’t know, this is what we’re offering for weddings in 2010 & 2011.

Less For More

Using a big fancy camera with prime lenses, coupled with 5 strobes fitted with fancy light modifiers may be a recipe for great photos. Here, I’m going to share with you an alternative way of getting great photos just by using a DSLR camera and a standard reflector. I will teach you how to use less for more by using good photography techniques, composition and by observing and understanding light. Below are a few examples taken outdoor without using any additional gears.

Whizarts_0666
Settings: 17mm, 1/320, f/4.0, ISO: 100
Gears: Nikon D80, 17-50mm lens

Shot around 5pm. Reflection taken from a car’s bonnet that was parked in front of the building.

Whizarts_0152
Settings: 160mm, 1/1250, f/4.0, ISO: 160
Gears: Nikon D700, 70-200mm lens

Shot around 630pm. The sunset gave a nice shadow so I positioned the couple strategically.

Whizarts_teoh_ong20304
Settings: 50mm, 1/320, f/1.8, ISO: 320
Gears: Nikon D700, 50mm lens, Silver Reflector

A reflector was positioned at the back of the subject to isolate the subject from the background.

Notes: Camera and lens used was just a guide. What you need to bring along for the workshop is a DSLR camera or a camera with manual function, and a laptop with Photoshop installed. I will not be talking about image quality, ISO performance or camera/lens performances during this workshop.

Intermediate users are encouraged to join this class. Basic understanding on exposure is needed in order to benefit from this session. Please email edu@kewynn.com to register.
